SNOW DAYS and Show Days
Hello Parents,
Snow Days: Please call the studio for a voice message - we will also post on Facebook. The website calendar has holiday/ vacations listed when the school is closed. Just a quick reminder to look through your studio handbook regarding snow cancellations. There are many answers to questions regarding the spring performance (if your child is in the show) which is just months away.
I have attached a copy of the Performance Program -PLEASE CHECK BOTH SHOWS many classes (grades 3 and up) are scheduled for both shows. Let us know if your child is in a back to back number and will not have time to change costumes. There should be at least one dance number between to change costumes.
Show A is the earlier show
Show B is the later show I will announce the actual times in the next couple of weeks. Usually they are 1:00 & 4:00 or 2:00 & 5:00 -I am just waitng confirmation with the school.
Dress Rehearsal schedule will be posted and emailed soon - ususally it starts around 2:00pm Please reserve the entire day until the schedule is posted. Dress rehearsal is MANDATORY for everyone No Exceptions.

Classes resume the week of January 9th after our Winter Break. Please refer to the calendar that you received in your handbook or refer to our web-site for future holiday and vacation closings.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS TO ATTEND ALL SCHEDULED CLASSES FROM JANUARY 9TH - FEBRUARY 6TH (unless they are sick).
The choreography for our Spring Performance is taught during this time period. When a student misses classes, it is very difficult for them to catch up. Please make every effort to have your child attend these classes.
NOTE TO STUDENTS INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN OUR 6 WEEK MINI SESSIONS.: please return your registration forms as soon as possible. Your registration form on file is not for these classes. We need a separate form.

Happy New Year Everyone!
If you have more than one child that attends classes here at Backstage and your children were not in the same show last year, please email us as soon as possible. We will put you on our "priority list" and will make our best effort to keep them in same show this year.

DECEMBER 13, 2011 / WINTER BENEFIT CONCERT
Hello Parents and Performers,
We would love to have treats for our dancers after the performances and we are asking for parents to help bake simple treats that can be eaten with fingers. Please shoot us an email if you can bake and let us know which show youare attending 2:30 or 4:30?
1- If your child has food alergies you may want to bring something special for them.
2-Please bring your dance shoes with you. Do not wear them to the center :)
3- We are handing out T-shirts this week (they are awesome) If you don't get yours I will bring it to the show.
4- Secure your hair back with hairspray - you may use bows, ribbons that match what you will be wearing (t-shirt or leoatard).
5- Yes you should wear make-up for the performance (youngest students - its the parents call).
6- Don't forget your cameras.
Dress Code
Hip Hop dancers: T-shirt, long black dance pants/yoga/ leggings, black socks, black hip hop shoes
Ballet dancers: Your class uniform ( may want to bring sweats to wear over your leotard and tights after) clean tights no holes. Miss Lauren Monday ballet classes only will also wear a black ballet skirt. If you do not have one let us know ASAP we are borrowing from teachers and students.
Modern dancers: Class uniform with black dance pants/yoga/leggings on top. T-shirt.
Jazz dancers: Class uniform with black dance pants/yoga/leggings, black socks or no socks (everyone the same) T-shirt.
Tap dancers: Class uniform with black dance pants/ yoga/leggins, T-shirt.
Perpetual Motion dancers: same as hip hop dancers
Creative dance and rainbow dancers: same as ballet classes.
All ballet dancers can wear their T-shirt to the show but they will not wear it for the actual dance.
If you are not sure what you are wearing please email us asap.
Please try to make it to your classes this week unless you are sick.

NOVEMBER 19, 2011 - THANKSGIVING WEEK
Hello everyone,
Remember there are NO DANCE CLASSSES Nov 23-26 .
Please join us for Parent PEEK WEEK if you can, there are so many good reasons for your dancer and family to join us:
1-The students LOVE to show mom and dad ( and siblings) what a great dancer they are!
2- It is a totally fun event/activity for the kids with refreshments,and a show for the whole family all for JUST $15.
3- Its a very short committment of time (60 minutes) with no extra rehearsals because they are performing their class work.
4- The students can watch the other dancers perform (unlike at the recital).
5- You get to video and take pictures.
6- The performance fee also incules a T-shirt for each dancer!
7- Your participation will help support The Women and Childrens Shelter in Medway :)
If you will be joining us please hand your blue slip in w/ performance fee attached no later than Dec1 ( so we can get our shirts ordered). ALSO can you mark down the size T-Shirt you would like ordered anywhere on the form.

NOVEMBER 8, 2011 - HANDBOOKS/SPRING PERFORMANCE
Hello Dance Parents -
We would just like to remind all parents that if you have not received a copy of this year's Parent/Student Handbook, please pick one up at the studio as soon as possible. We have tried our best to make sure that everyone has received one, but we may have missed a few people. This Handbook contains a lot of very important information regarding payments, dress code and our Spring Performance, among other things. It is important to review the Handbook when you have questions, as many of the answers can be found there. Please note that the Handbook has been updated since last year. This year's copy has b light blue cover. If you have last year's Handbook, please discard it.
As a reminder, the dates for the Spring Performance at Ashland High School are :
May 19th, 2012 - Mandatory Dress Rehearsal
May 20th, 2012 - Show
*Times to be determined
If your child will not be performing, please inform the office IN WRITING (email is fine) no later than DECEMBER 1, 2011 or you will be responsible for the costume charges.

OCTOBER 18, 2011 - BRING A FRIEND WEEK REMINDERS

A few reminders about our "Bring a Friend" week (October 24th - 29th):
*Please RSVP to the event on our Facebook page
*All guests MUST bring a signed waiver to the class (it must be signed by THEIR parent)
*Costumes are encouraged (but not required!) Lightweight costumes are a good idea :)
*OPTIONAL : "Like us" on Facebook to be eligible to win 10 free weeks of classes!

* If you can not make it to the January workshop please attend the October 16th 2011 Dance convention at the Lantana, Randolph Ma. Each student must attend at least ONE workshop. ASk for more details if needed.
Great news ....The money raised will cover all expenses or at least most!
Let's all try to car pool as well:)

OCTOBER 5, 2011 - HALLOWEEN/BRING A FRIEND WEEK
Hello Parents,
Our Halloween 'Bring a Friend" week starts on Oct 24th - Oct 29th. This is ALWAYS a super fun week for our students! We will be sending home the waiver for any friends that will be joining us. This year to help us keep track of how many will be joining us we would like you to ask the friends parent to RSVP on our facebook page. We have posted this event and it is ready for guests. Some classes are big and we want to make sure we can fit everyone in so please remind guests to RSVP.
Also remember that we'll get warm with all the dancing so wear a costume that is not to heavy.
We are in our final week of observation and we will let you know if we feel there should be any changes made to your childs schedule - please let us know if you have any concerns regarding your childs classes.

Hello Parents,
Shoe orders (and dance wear) from Dance Gear Outlet are in and can be picked up at the studio today 10:00- 1:00pm or when the studio is open for classes next week. The studio is open Mon-Thurs 4:00-8:00pm, Friday 5-7:00pm.and Sat 9:30-11:30 am (If you place a separate LATE order they are not in until next week)
Cheryl will be in the office next week Tues, Wed & Fri 11:30-1:30.
Students may NOT take class if we have not received payment or the ARP form- PLEASE drop it off BEFORE their first class.
TICKETS for " SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE"- Providence
The touring group is performing the end of September- should be an awesome show and very inspiring for dance students If you are interested in ordering group tickets please let us know ASAP. We can probably set up some car pools :)
The teachers and I at BDC are so very excited to be starting classes this Monday Sept 12th with all our wonderful students!
On a final note BDC welcomes Miss Laura Driscoll to our faculty! Miss Laura has studied dance for 17 years locally and in NYC. Her performance experience includes Walt Disney World and many Title wins at Dance Competitions. She looks forward to sharing her dance knowledge and experience with all her students at BDC. Miss Laura will be teaching the Thursday B,HH,Tap and the Tap/Jazz classes.

If you were planning to register for one of these classes, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can place you on our wait list as a first choice. We encourage parents to choose an alternate class in the event we can not place them in one of the above classes.

4:00-5:00 for age 8-11
5:00-6:00 for age 12-up
BDC company is for students who are looking to develope good technique in a progressive class.
Joining company will change a good dancer into a GREAT dancer !
Seperate rules and policies apply to these classes.
Please let us know if you are interested in taking dance ONE STEP FURTHER :)

One FINAL shoe order will be placed this Saturday Sept. 3rd Please stop by the studio between 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Please bring your child with you to be fitted. If you have not ordered shoes and you can not come tomorrow, please stop by during office hours to look at the samples to see the style of shoes that your child needs.
Office hours are : Tues, Weds & Fri 11:30 a.m - 1:00 p.m.
PLEASE ALSO PICK UP YOUR HANDBOOK IF YOU HAVE NOT YET DONE SO. We have made many changes since last year, so the old handbook is now obsolete. We have received many emails and phone calls with questions that can be easily answered by the handbook. It will save you time if you have the information at hand.

We are very excited about classes starting on SEPTEMBER 12th !
Please note Miss Jenn Wiles class, Tuesday 4:00 "Rainbow Dance" will start on Sept 20th.
If you have not dropped off your ARP (credit card ) form yet we can not hold your childs spot in class until we receive it. Each new "revised" parent handbook has a form inside. These books were to be picked up at one of the six open houses we offered in August. Please stop by to get your book before classes start if you have not it yet. The office will be open Tues, Wed & Fri 11: 45- 1:30 and on Saturdays 10:30-1:00. (This Saturday11:30-1:00)
If you did not order your shoes please stop by to see what the shoes look like so you are sure to get the correct style of dance shoe.
If you are NOT registering your child for the class that was "recommended" by their teacher in April please call the office first . We are finding that many parents have chosen different classes and they need to be confirmed by the Director before the office receives them.

We just wanted you to be aware that we are working on a new payment system for our 2011/2012 dance year. We are still working on the details and we will provide more information in the coming weeks. Please disregard the current tuition due date of August 2nd. To register, please mail your registration form along with the registration fee of $20.00 to hold your child's spot in your selected class(es).
